Private English Lessons in Tunisia: Prices and How to Choose

6 November 2026 · 4 min read

Looking for private English lessons in Tunisia? A 1-to-1 online lesson means a teacher just for you, times that suit you and a programme built around your goal, with no travelling. But it is not the best choice for everyone. This guide explains when private lessons are worth the price, what they cost, how to choose a teacher and how to get the most from every hour.

What makes a private lesson different?

In a private lesson, the whole hour is yours. You speak more, the teacher corrects your own mistakes, stops at what you do not understand and moves past what you already know. You can also decide the content: preparing a presentation, a job interview or everyday conversation.

The main limits are that you do not interact with other students, and the price per hour is higher than in a group.

Private lessons or a small group?

Here is a simple way to decide.

Choose private lessons if

  • you have a date coming up, such as a job interview or a trip;
  • your hours are irregular and you cannot commit to a fixed time;
  • your goal is very specific and no general programme covers it;
  • you feel very shy and want a quiet start before joining a group.

Choose a small group if

  • you can commit to 2 sessions a week;
  • you want to practise speaking with different people;
  • your budget is limited: the hourly price in adult groups starts at 10 TND.

How much do private English lessons cost?

Prices in Tunisia vary with the teacher, their experience and the goal, so always compare the price per hour, and ask about the length of each session and what is included. These are the prices for Ethanna private lessons:

  • Kick-off: 10 hours for 300 TND
  • Focus: 20 hours for 600 TND
  • Full level: 30 hours for 900 TND

That is 30 TND per hour in all three packs, with a free level check, a personal plan, adjustable times and weekly follow-up. There are also specialist private lessons at 45 TND per hour in IELTS and Business English, in packs of 10, 20 or 30 hours.

A private session lasts one hour, and payment is made before the first session.

How to choose a private English teacher

Before you commit to a pack, ask these questions:

  1. Do they assess your level first? A good teacher starts from you, not from a book.
  2. Do they have a clear plan? What will you do in the first ten hours, and how will you know you have improved?
  3. How much do you speak in a lesson? If the teacher talks most of the time, you are not practising.
  4. Do they correct you in a useful way? You should leave each lesson knowing what to work on.
  5. What are the terms? What happens if you cancel? What is the refund policy? Ask for this in writing.

How to get the most from every hour

  • Set a goal for each lesson: for example, "I want to talk about my job without stopping".
  • Keep a list of questions: during the week, note what stopped you in English and bring it to class.
  • Review after the lesson: take 15 minutes the same day to go over your notes.
  • Speak more than you listen: ask your teacher to interrupt less and correct at the end if that helps you.
  • Keep a steady rhythm: one or two lessons a week beat 5 hours scattered across a month.

How many hours do you need?

  • 10 hours: for a close, specific goal, such as preparing for an interview.
  • 20 hours: for clear progress in speaking or writing.
  • 30 hours: for serious work on your overall level.

Example: how to divide 10 hours before an interview

Here is a plan for someone with a job interview in English in three weeks. The same idea works for a presentation, a trip or an exam.

  • Hour 1: level check, setting the goal and reading the job advert.
  • Hours 2 and 3: writing a short answer about yourself and your experience.
  • Hours 4 and 5: practising the most frequent questions out loud.
  • Hours 6 and 7: preparing real examples and the difficult questions.
  • Hours 8 and 9: two mock interviews, with detailed notes after each.
  • Hour 10: a final review of weak points.

Every hour has a clear purpose. If your goal is more general, ask your teacher for a similar plan: what will you be able to do after 10 hours, and how will you measure it?

Frequently asked questions

Is an online private lesson as effective as one in person?

For languages and conversation, usually yes, with a stable connection and a good microphone. You also save the time and cost of travelling.

Can I change the time of a lesson?

Private lessons take place at times agreed with your teacher, and those times can be adjusted. Note that a session you miss counts as used and is not made up.

Are private lessons suitable for children?

That depends on the child, but many children gain more from a small group of their own age. See also how to teach kids English at home.
