Who this programme is for, and who it isn't

We write both sides clearly. Being honest about the second is what makes the first believable.

This programme is right for you if

  • You need a specific IELTS band by a specific date
  • Your current level is B1 or above
  • You are applying to a university or for immigration, or your job requires the test
  • You have taken the test before and want to raise your band

This programme is not right for you if

  • Your level is below B1: start with the levels programme first, then come back to us
  • You can't set aside 4 to 6 hours a week for homework
  • You want a guaranteed band: no one can guarantee it, and we don't

Programme structure: a closed cohort, not a monthly subscription

A fixed start date

The cohort starts on an announced date and ends on an announced date. No joining after the start, because the first session is a diagnosis the rest builds on.

Three sessions a week

Two hours per session. The intensity is deliberate: eight weeks at this pace is enough to move your band, and a slower pace is not.

Six students at most

And at least four for the cohort to start. If it doesn't fill, we tell you within 48 hours and offer to postpone or a full refund.

Academic and General in one cohort

The two versions share far more than they differ. The only real split is Writing Task 1, handled with separate work in sessions 4, 5 and 20.

The syllabus week by week

Twenty-four sessions, each with its content and homework. Read them all before you pay: this is exactly the programme.

Week 1Mapping the test and diagnosis
Session 1 · 2 hours

Diagnostic test and test structure

  • The full structure of the four papers: timing, number of questions and order
  • How the band descriptors actually assess you: the four criteria for writing and speaking
  • Academic versus General Training: what is shared and what differs
  • Written diagnosis: a Task 2 sample in 20 minutes, and a short speaking sample
  • Every student leaves with a first estimate of their current band and a written goal
Homework: a full Listening test at home, untimed, to set your baseline
Session 2 · 2 hours

Listening: sections 1 and 2: the accuracy paper

  • Completing forms, notes and tables
  • Labelling maps and plans, the language of direction (opposite, next to)
  • Numbers, dates, addresses and spelling names: the silent band killer
  • Distractor patterns: the late correction (actually, make that…)
  • Rules for transferring answers and spelling penalties
Homework: two section 1 and two section 2 tasks, strictly timed
Session 3 · 2 hours

Reading: the timing system

  • 60 minutes, three passages, 40 questions: a twenty-minute budget per passage
  • Skimming for structure versus scanning for target words
  • A map of question types: which follow the order of the text and which don't
  • Matching Headings in detail: a paragraph's function, not its topic
  • Never leave a blank
Homework: one full passage in 20 minutes
Week 2Writing Task 1 and reading accuracy
Session 4 · 2 hours

Writing Task 1: part one

  • Academic room: line and bar graphs, the overview paragraph rule (leaving it out caps your band), grouping data instead of listing it, the language of trends
  • General Training room: letter types and register, formal, semi-formal and informal, choosing the right one from the prompt, and opening and closing phrases
  • Both rooms come back together for the last 25 minutes: fluency practice on Speaking Part 1
Homework: one Task 1 for your version, strictly timed at 20 minutes
Session 5 · 2 hours

Writing Task 1: part two

  • Academic room: pie charts, tables, processes and maps over time, the language of comparison and proportion, the passive for describing processes, and no opinions, explanations or invented data
  • General Training room: covering all three bullet points, keeping a consistent tone, and phrasing requests, complaints, apologies, thanks and invitations
  • Back together: a second round of Speaking Part 1 practice
Homework: a new Task 1, and a rewrite of the session 4 homework after correction
Session 6 · 2 hours

Reading: True/False/Not Given and Yes/No/Not Given

  • The difference between the two question families
  • Why Not Given is the most costly trap in the paper
  • Claim versus evidence: test the statement against the text alone, not against what you know
  • Sentence completion and short answers, and sticking to the word limit
Homework: one full passage and one TFNG set
Week 3Task 2 foundations and the first mock test
Session 7 · 2 hours

Writing Task 2: reading the question

  • The five question types: opinion, discussion, problem and solution, advantages and disadvantages, and the two-part question
  • Breaking down the prompt: task words, topic words and limiting words
  • The most common reason for failing: answering a question that wasn't asked
  • Generating ideas under pressure: four reliable angles
Homework: five questions, planning only without full writing, eight minutes each
Session 8 · 2 hoursMock test

Writing Task 2: structure and the forty-minute budget + the first mock test

  • Four- and five-paragraph structures, the thesis statement and topic sentences
  • Splitting the forty minutes: 5 planning / 30 writing / 5 checking
  • First mock test: a full Listening paper under exam timing, in class
Homework: a full Task 2, timed at 40 minutes
Session 9 · 2 hours

Listening: sections 3 and 4: the academic half

  • Section 3: a student discussion, multiple choice, matching and following opinions, and the two-speaker trap
  • Section 4: a continuous lecture without pauses, completing outlines and notes
  • Signpost words that warn you an answer is coming
  • Anticipation: reading ahead and predicting the type of word before you hear it
Homework: two section 3 and two section 4 tasks, strictly timed
Week 4Speaking from start to finish
Session 10 · 2 hours

Speaking Part 1: the warm-up where you lose points

  • Fluency and coherence: what "extending" really means
  • The two-to-three sentence answer: answer + reason + example
  • A bank of topics: work, study, hometown, housing, hobbies, food, weather, technology, travel
  • Ending one-word answers and introductions that sound memorised
Homework: record ten Part 1 answers and send them as audio
Session 11 · 2 hours

Speaking Part 2: the cue card

  • The one-minute planning method: four keywords, not sentences
  • Speaking for a full two minutes without stopping
  • Controlling tenses: past narration is where most candidates fall apart
  • Covering the four points, then continuing beyond them
  • What to do when you have nothing to say: the plausible imagined example rule
Homework: three recorded cue cards, two minutes each
Session 12 · 2 hours

Speaking Part 3: the discussion that sets your band

  • Abstract, general and opinion-based: it's no longer about you
  • The answer engine: opinion + reason + example + partial concession
  • Hedging and speculating: tends to, arguably, it depends on whether
  • Handling "I don't know" without saying it
  • Asking for clarification, correctly and only once
Homework: six recorded Part 3 questions
Week 5Upgrading your language
Session 13 · 2 hours

Grammatical range, moving from Band 6 to Band 7

  • Natural complex sentences, not decorative ones
  • Relative clauses, all types of conditionals, and the passive in reporting
  • Accuracy versus range: the trade-off examiners actually reward
  • The eight most frequent errors Arabic speakers make in IELTS writing, with practice
Homework: rewrite the session 8 essay using five target structures
Session 14 · 2 hours

Lexical resource, topic vocabulary that raises your band

  • Topic groups: education, environment, technology, health, crime, work, urban life, media
  • Collocations before single words (heavily criticised, widely regarded)
  • Paraphrasing the prompt without changing its meaning
  • Why memorised "Band 9 phrases" are penalised instead of rewarded
Homework: a personal collocation sheet of 40 items, with a sentence for each
Session 15 · 2 hours

Reading: the hard question families

  • Matching features and matching sentence endings
  • Summary completion with and without a word box
  • Multiple choice with long options
  • A full timed passage in class with instant error analysis
Homework: two full passages, strictly timed
Week 6The second mock test and the repair clinic
Session 16 · 2 hoursMock test

Second mock test, full Listening and Reading

  • Strict timing, no pauses, with answer transfer
  • Marked and banded by the teacher before session 17
Homework: none: focus on the results report
Session 17 · 2 hours

Mock test repair clinic

  • An individual band report for each student: Listening, Reading and writing from the homework
  • Classifying errors: format error / timing error / language error / comprehension error, each with a different fix
  • A written personal action list for the three remaining weeks
Homework: individual homework assigned to each student from their report
Session 18 · 2 hours

Writing Task 2: coherence and cohesion

  • Paragraph logic: one developed idea per paragraph
  • Linking words, and why overusing them lowers your band
  • Reference and substitution to avoid repetition
  • Live rewriting of two students' essays, anonymously
Homework: a full timed Task 2 on a repaired structure
Week 7Polish
Session 19 · 2 hours

Pronunciation for the speaking band

  • Sentence stress and meaning groups: clarity matters more than accent
  • Connected speech, weak forms and linking between words
  • Intonation for opinion, contrast and listing
  • Individual recordings with targeted feedback for each student
  • Specific to Arabic speakers: /p/–/b/, /v/–/f/, consonant clusters and the -ed ending
Homework: shadowing practice, a quarter of an hour a day, with two recordings
Session 20 · 2 hours

Writing clinic, a full timed paper

  • Sixty minutes: Task 1 in 20 and Task 2 in 40, under exam conditions, each student writing the task for their own version
  • Then live correction on a shared screen, criterion by criterion
Homework: a full rewrite of both tasks
Session 21 · 2 hours

Listening: accents, speed and the last five marks

  • British, Australian and American accents, and non-native speakers in the test
  • Keeping track after missing an answer: the recovery protocol
  • Multiple choice under time pressure in sections 3 and 4
  • Accuracy practice for transferring answers on paper and typing them on computer
Homework: a full timed Listening paper
Week 8Exam readiness
Session 22 · 2 hoursMock test

Third mock test, a full exam

  • Listening, Reading and Writing in sequence, under full exam conditions
  • Mock speaking tests are booked individually outside class
Homework: none: prepare for the speaking interview
Session 23 · 2 hours

Individual speaking tests + group repair

  • For each student: a full three-part speaking test, 14 minutes, banded on the spot
  • Students not on turn work on assigned repair tasks with the teacher
  • Written feedback for each student against the four criteria
Homework: apply the speaking feedback before the last session
Session 24 · 2 hours

Test-day protocol and final band review

  • Managing time in each paper, minute by minute
  • What to do when you panic, when you're late, and when your mind goes blank
  • The last forty-eight hours: what to review and what to stop reviewing
  • Computer versus paper test: which to book and why
  • Registration guidance, ID documents and when results come out
  • The final individual report and the Ethanna certificate of completion

Review

Group review sessions

An Ethanna certificate of completion, which is not an official IELTS qualification and does not replace one.

Entry requirements

Minimum level B1

Confirmed by the placement test and then a short call with the teacher.

Placement call

Ten minutes, free, before your seat is confirmed. The teacher checks your level, your goal and whether the programme fits.

Commitment to homework

4 to 6 hours a week. The programme is built on your homework being corrected; without it, it loses half its value.

Technical requirements

A stable 5–10 Mbps connection, a Google account, and a microphone or headset.

If the call shows your level is below B1, we won't enrol you in this programme. We'll suggest the right path, and you won't be charged anything.

The next step

Need English for work rather than an exam? The Business English programme follows the same logic: a closed cohort, practical simulations and written assessment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee a particular band?

No. No one can guarantee an IELTS band, and we don't. What we guarantee is structured preparation, three full mock tests, individual correction and a written band report. The realistic range from B1 over eight weeks is 5.5–7.0, and from a strong B2 it is 6.5–7.5. These are ranges, not promises.

Is the certificate recognised?

Ethanna's certificate is a programme completion certificate that we issue. It is not an official IELTS qualification and does not replace one. An official band is only issued by an accredited test centre after you sit the real exam.

What if I miss a session?

A session you miss counts as used: it is not refunded, made up or replaced. A session Ethanna cancels, or one the teacher misses, is made up free of charge. The programme is intensive and the cohort is closed, so missing a session costs more than in the levels programme.

Are sessions recorded?

Session recording is a paid extra and is not included in the programme price. It is requested and priced on demand.

How do I pay?

D17 / Mandat through Tunisian Post, bank transfer or online payment. After paying, send a photo of the receipt on WhatsApp. Your seat is held once payment is received, not before. You can pay in two instalments.

Can I get a refund?

Full refund before the first session. No refund from the first session on, whatever the reason. The only exceptions are a session we did not deliver or make up, or a cohort that never started. Details in the refund policy.

When does the next cohort start?

The next cohort's date and the seats left are shown at the top of this page and updated for each cohort. Registration closes a few days before the start so the cohort begins complete.

What if the cohort doesn't fill?

A cohort starts with at least four students and at most six. If it is not full when registration closes, we tell you within 48 hours and offer to move you to the next cohort, a seat at the private-lesson rate, or a full refund.

Is the programme for Academic or General Training?

Both, in one cohort. Listening, Reading and Speaking are fully shared. The only real split is Writing Task 1, handled with separate work in sessions 4, 5 and 20. Writing Task 2 is shared.

How is it different from the levels programme?

The levels programme builds general English one level at a time. This programme is intensive, with a closed cohort and a fixed start date, and it does not teach English from scratch: it turns your current English into exam points. That is why it requires at least B1.

Can I join after the cohort starts?

No. The programme is sequential and intensive, and the first session is the diagnosis everything else builds on. Anyone who registers after closing goes onto the waiting list for the next cohort automatically.

Do you help me register for the IELTS exam?

Yes, in session 24: registration guidance, the ID documents required, the difference between computer and paper tests, and when results come out. Booking and payment are done directly with the accredited test centre, not through us.

Ethanna does not guarantee any IELTS band, university admission or visa. What we offer is structured preparation, individual correction and mock tests. The certificate awarded is an Ethanna certificate of completion.
